IB CAS

WHAT IS CAS @ GIS?

CAS means CREATIVITY, ACTION AND SERVICE!

The CAS requirement is a fundamental part of the programme and takes seriously the importance of life outside the world of academic studies.

All IB students at GIS take part in CAS activities. They also participate in special days such as International Day and Environmental Day. IB students are encouraged to get involved in activities outside the school as well as school activities. IB students have some timetabled CAS time per week.

C.....is for 'Creativity' and is interpreted as imaginatively as possible to cover a wide range of arts and other activities and to include creativity by the individual student in designing and carrying out service projects.

A.....is for Action and can include participation in expeditions, individual and team sports and physical training; it can also include carrying out creative and service projects in local or international projects.

S.....is for Service and is community or social service; it can include environmental and international projects.

Students are expected to be involved in CAS activities for the equivalent of at least three hours each week during the two years of the programme.

A system of self-evaluation encourages students to reflect on the benefits of CAS participation to themselves and to others, and to evaluate the understanding and insights acquired.
